Ramblings from my life…

So you think you know Italian?

The family is learning to speak some basic Italian for our upcoming trip to Italy. We have planned to go about 3 + weeks after my husband returns home. The girls are getting pretty good at pronouncing words and even remembering what they mean. I bought the “Italian for Dummies” book so that it would tell me in layman’s terms how to speak the language.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

You already know some Italian! How about…
Pizza (peets-tsah)
Pasta (pahs-tah)
Spaghetti (spah-geht-tee)
Mozzarella (moht-tsha-rehl-lah)
Espresso (ehs-prehs-soh)
Tiramisu (tee-rah-mee-soo)
Incidentally, did you know that tiramisu literally means “pull me up”? This refers to the fact that this sweet is made with strong Italian espresso.

Anyway, it is really sweet to here the children talk to each other like they are Italian pro’s. Pig Will talking to Pig Me Too: “Amore Bambina!”, to which she is meaning “I love you little girl!” and then Pig Me Too back to Pig Will: “Scusi bambina, Ciao!”, to which she means “Excuse me little girl, Bye!”

Can you just picture them walking up to a restaurant server and asking: “Scusi bambina, Spaghetti per favore! Stupendo!”
